In this video, Dr. Berg discussed about abdominal gas and bloating.
Four Main Causes of Abdominal Gas and Bloating:
1. SIBO or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth
This is a condition where you have too much bacteria in a wrong location. Most bacteria in the gut should be in the large intestine and not in the small intestine. The type of gas is hydrogen and methane gas that can cause belching, burping, bloating. You can check if you have SIBO through Hydrogen / Methane breath test kit.
2. High Levels of Methanogens
Microbes’ imbalance or Methanogens are ancient microbes that makes methane gas that can also cause belching, flatulence. It consumes polysaccharides which are starches, sugars. This situation is where you have excessive fermentation.
3. Low Stomach Acid
This can also cause SIBO. Consuming a lot of protein could cause gas and bloating if you don’t have enough stomach acid to digest the protein.
4. Decrease Bile Production
Bile is produced by the liver and is stored in the gallbladder. Not having enough bile can also cause belching, bloating and gas because you couldn’t be able to digest fats.
What to Do for Gas and Bloating:
1. Cut down carbs to reduce the stress and inflammation in the gut.
2. Cut down fiber completely for about a short period of time to let the system reset.
3. Intermittent Fasting
4. Add Betaine Hydrochloride before the meal – A natural thing that helps increase hydrochloric acid.
5. Avoid Dairy
6. Add Purified Bile Salts after the meal
